Stainless Steel
Stainless steels are steel alloys containing a minimum of 11% chromium and a maximum of 1.2% carbon, also known as inox.
Stainless steels are steels with high corrosion resistance due to their high chromium content. The addition of molybdenum enhances corrosion resistance against acid attack and pitting corrosion in chloride solutions. For this reason, there are numerous grades of stainless steel with varying chromium and molybdenum contents, tailored to the specific environments in which the alloy must perform.
Resistance to corrosion and staining, low maintenance, and luster make stainless steel an ideal material for many applications where both steel strength and corrosion resistance are required.
Stainless steel is used in sheets, plates, bars, wire, and pipes for the manufacture of the following: cookware, cutlery, surgical instruments, and household appliances; construction materials; industrial equipment (e.g., in paper mills, chemical plants, and water treatment facilities); storage tanks and tankers for food products. Corrosion resistance, ease of steam cleaning and sterilization, and the lack of need for surface coatings have increased the use of stainless steel in commercial kitchens and food processing facilities.
